The Colossal Colon® is a 40-foot long, four-foot tall, crawl-through replica of the human colon designed to educate the public about colorectal cancer. It includes examples of healthy colon tissue, several non-cancerous diseases of the colon, polyps, and various stages of colorectal cancer.

The Colossal Colon® is fun for all ages, and there will be free food and beverages. Volunteers will be on site to answer questions and educational brochures will be available to take home. This educational exhibit is not only free, but it may save your life. Remember that colon cancer is over 90% preventable.

Colorectal cancer kills 56,000 Americans a year, making it second only to lung cancer. The “Colon Cancer Free Zone” was introduced to increase public awareness of colon cancer and to help reduce the incidence of this disease to the lowest rate possible within the “Zone.” If you are interested in joining the “Colon Cancer Free Zone” to help prevent this disease call the American Cancer Society at 1.800.ACS.2345.

The Colossal Colon® is brought to you by the Michael A. Gard Foundation, created in memory of San Jose resident Michael Gard, who passed away from colorectal cancer in July of 2000 at the age of 53. The mission of the foundation is to increase awareness of this disease through early detection and testing.

For more information about the Michael A. Gard Foundation visit www.MAGfoundation.com. For colon cancer information, visit the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Sponsored by the Michael A. Gard Foundation with support from the

American Cancer Society Colon Cancer Free Zone Committee, Xilinx, NBC 11, and Good Samaritan Hospital.
